Therapeutic Approaches

My therapeutic approach primarily draws on 4 treatment modalities: Narrative Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic principles.

In our first few sessions, we'll focus on understanding your story and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Our work will be collaborative and dynamic, with me sharing authentic reflections as you tell me your experiences. During this initial period, we'll establish how to work together comfortably, including ways to make you feel heard and developing signals for when you need to pause during challenging conversations.

We'll work together to identify and examine patterns in your relationships and behaviours, making connections between past and present. We'll explore how family dynamics, cultural background, and societal messages have shaped your relationships with others and yourself. Some sessions may focus on processing deeper emotional experiences, while others might center on practical strategies for managing life's challenges.

If you're struggling with a specific issue, we might work on separating you from the problem itself - seeing it as something external rather than a defining characteristic. We might also use creative visualisation, exploring your inner world as if it were a physical space, or creating mental calm spaces for safety.

A key part of our work will be helping you live in alignment with what matters most to you despite challenges through experiential exercises and optional homework. Most importantly, we'll move at a pace that feels right for you and make time to celebrate along the way.

Clinical Experiences

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at University College London. My clinical expertise includes supporting individuals of all genders and sexual orientations in addressing a diverse range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, shame or guilt, low self-esteem/self-worth, adverse childhood or early life experiences, interpersonal problems, major life changes, issues related to living with chronic/life-limiting/terminal illnesses.

I also have extensive experience in working with individuals living with HIV at one of Europe's largest HIV clinics, adults and young people struggling with their gender identity and sexuality or related issues such as discrimination and prejudice, and those undergoing a variety of gender affirmation processes.

In addition to my clinical work, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of community contexts. This includes supporting individuals living in a low-barrier shelter and those accessing the adjacent safe injection site in Vancouver, as well as assisting impoverished women in Hong Kong who face mental health challenges, including psychosis, in seeking timely and appropriate psychological interventions.
